Position Overview
Under general supervision of the Director of Labor Relations, the Labor Relations Associate will provide comprehensive administrative support to the Labor Relations team. The role is essential in ensuring smooth operations within the department, facilitating effective communication, and maintaining accurate records.

Scope of Role & Responsibilities

  • Engage with Unions and Union Representatives, Central Office of Labor Relations, Office of Collective Bargaining and other City, State or Federal agencies about labor relations matters as needed.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and communication of Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices that are in concert with the health plan’s goals and objectives.
  • Monitor adherence to MetroPlusHealth and NYC H+H policies and procedure and objective performance standards set forth by departments across the organization.
  • Monitor and track deadlines related to labor relations matters and activities.
  • Support leaders with preparing, planning, and scheduling pre-disciplinary meetings (counselling sessions and warnings).
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials as needed to support labor relations initiatives.
  • Organize and compile data for grievances, disciplinary matters, and all other labor relations matters.
  • Provide administrative support during hearings and labor management meetings, including note-taking, document preparation and logistical arrangements, as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company policies, collective bargaining agreements, labor laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Support training and guidance to supervisors and managers on labor and employee relations matters.
  • Assist with the review of contracts, agreements, and Labor Relations Orders dealing with wages, hours, working conditions and matters affecting labor relations, employee relations, and personnel management activities.
  • Support the handling of labor relations investigations, grievances, disciplinary hearings, and employee complaints handled at the corporate level, including appeals to the City Office of Labor Relations and arbitration hearings.
  • Support the resolution of employee relations matters, including, but not limited to, assistance with complaints, recommendations, advising management on performance management, dispute resolution, and compensation at the local level (within MetroPlusHealth).
  • Participate in Labor-Management meetings to discuss and seek resolution of issues.
  • Support with management of the MetroPlusHealth’s Workplace Violence Prevention Program.
  • Gathers and reports OSHA data to the State and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Support special projects and initiatives assigned by the Director of Labor Relations, Deputy Chief People Officer, or the Chief People Officer.

Required Education, Training & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required with a major in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Personnel Administration, Public Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Management, Business, Law, or a related discipline.
  • 2 years of experience in the field of Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Human Resources, and/or Personnel Administration in a unionized workplace which included the administration of policies and labor relations matters.
  • Master’s Degree in a related discipline is preferred, not required.
